My First Trip to Havasupai.

It will be impossible to put into words how great this trip was. It was so beautiful and powerful down there. I loved it. I can't wait to go next year. We started at 4am Friday morning and drove 5 hours to the top of the canyon. It took 3 hours to hike 13 miles down to the first set of Falls. Mooney falls were my favorite. They were over 200 feet tall. Most visitors don't realize or think it’s possible to swim behind these falls, but my posse has been doing it for years. Finally it was my turn to join the club. It is hard to describe the rush and power of being so close to the falls, so I will just say that I have never been that scared in my life. It was like a hurricane behind there. You could barely see, it was freezing and the water constantly pounded you in all directions like a tornado. Dave was guiding me and was yelling instructions at the top of his lungs and I could barely hear him standing next to him. He was yelling” Just keep feeling for the next hand and toe hold. Right around this rock it’s going to get really loud and crazy. It will feel like you can’t breathe. Just keep moving and don’t stop.” You pretty much have to keep your eyes closed because the water felt like nails shooting out of a gun if you tried to look ahead. I chickened out the first time, but refused to leave without doing it. Once I made it, I went a second time. I loved it. It was a huge rush. It was easily Ten times scarier than Skydiving. The next morning we hiked into and down some abandon gold mines with some head lamps and spent some time cliff jumping at Navajo falls. The hike out nearly killed me. Really. But it was worth it. Here is some pictures.

Curtis..I am impressed that you went behind Mooney falls the first time you went down. Whoever discovered that you could actually go behind the falls and make it out alive is a warrior. I am sure you enjoyed some good stories from the vets that you went with. I love Supai and I am already looking forward to the trip next year. The hike down to Mooney is great, Navajo falls are incredible, what's not to love.

"I'm not listening to you, you're crazy!"
Hee Hee!
You are quite the adventurer! Like the pic with you and the backpack.
Can't believe you did that. I'm scared just reading about it.

Gorgeous place! I'm thinking you are a crazy dude though and I wonder how your wife stays sane with you and all your death defying stunts! I'd like to hear about how the hike out nearly killed you...seems to me you are leaving out some kind of good story there. :-)
